Capital Issuance - March 2026
Key points
Gross capital issuance by UK residents was £72.3 billion in March, compared to £68.4 billion in February and the previous six-month average of £60.7 billion (Chart 1).
Net capital issuance was -£10.7 billion in March, compared to £16.4 billion in February and the previous six-month average of £6.1 billion (Chart 1).
The fall in net capital issuance was driven by an increase of £31.0 billion in gross repayments, which more than offset the £4.0 billion increase in gross issuance during the month and is the highest repayment level seen since these data began being published by the Bank of England (hereafter referred to as the ‘Bank’).
In addition to the summary statistics contained within this release and the associated tables, the Bank publishes a number of more granular series; please see our Bankstats tables (E3.1) and the full list of series and interactive charts.
